Why are we so afraid of the unknown? What is it about Fear?

Wow. I've just created my very first blog. I feel as though I've planted my first step in this technological abyss. I kind of feel like Captain Kirk on his first trek out on the Starship. (I really don't know what I'm doing right now. I guess I'll have to sit tight, type more and find out.)
